Job Opening: Media and Communications Strategist

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (iCSC) is a leading organization specializing in analysis and campaigns on climate-energy policies. Our work includes delivering new energy solutions and influencing international negotiations to aggressively address climate change.

We are currently recruiting for the post of Media and Communications Strategist

The Media and Communications Strategist will lead the design, delivery and monitoring of ICSC’s media and communications work, ensuring all campaigns and communication materials are of high quality as well as reach wide audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptual and creative thinking, making sense of a great deal of information, and turning these into effective media, communication and campaign strategies

  • To achieve strategic coverage for iCSC, the work will include: (i) Research and writing press releases, op-eds and reactives; (ii) organizing media briefings; facilitating trips to the field; collect case studies (in-depth interviews and photographs as appropriate and (iii) ensuring digital visibility carbon resilience projects on social networks.

  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with media contacts, especially amongst editors, columnists, senior reporters, producers and the like.

  • Strengthen iCSC’s media and communications capacity thru coaching of relevant ICSC staff, providing strategic and operational advise and delivery of a set of relevant media and communications trainings.

  • Ensure all of ICSCs external communications are delivered to excellent standard – working closely with other spet media, policy and advocacy staff and partners.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

This is a challenging role that requires hard work, flexibility, good judgment, initiative and an ability to deliver results. The core competencies which any successful candidate will display are:

  • Proven track record in delivering or overseeing media communications for campaigns

  • Strong strategic thinking and campaign planning skills; creativity for campaign tactics and strategies

  • Excellent English language communications skills – both written and verbal.

  • Passion and commitment to social justice, citizen empowerment and social change.

  • Understanding of how civic advocacy and public campaigning function

  • Professionalism, efficiency and results-oriented delivery on short timelines

  • Strong teamwork skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture
